I used to have Steel rings fitted to block top.
These are fitted to a recession machined into top of block. It is my understanding this ring is tear drop shaped in section.
It was NOT fitted where I had specified. I believe if it was fitted outside the fire ring area and alignment was good this would have worked well.
I had heaps of trouble sealing a 2ltr head, due to the misalignment at the gasket face, between block/gasket/head.
This was with T10 block/Felpro 8361/German head.
The cause.
Misalignment between the 3
I emptied block, bolted head back on and inverted block to find this........
U can see where the head chamber disapears under block there.
I then bolted on another 2ltr head to find..................
So....then I bolted on a 1600 cc head...................
much better.
BUT
I had to make the 2000cc head work,
The fix.
Machine o rings flat
Whist ehgine was inverted and empty, I moved head, whilst on block to a favourable position.
I then scribed the bore outline onto head in that position.
I basically found the head needed to be pulled all the way forward and slightly one way, for my situation. It is not simply a situation where spacers can be made for head bolts etc.
As I tried this earlier.
I then used gasket as aligner for head and blockand fitted 2 dowels 1/4" to block.
I have no image of this
Bear in mind this head has in the order of 2.5 mm planed from it.
