I knows it's late but I thought I should ad that I've used the L18 and L16 rods and the only actual failure was my old YB bottom end through a rod out of bed because it was oil surging that bad that everyone in the pit and spectator area could see the oil warning light blazing at Mt Cotton Hillclimb but hte driver missed it and apparently he did the same at the previous event at Morgan Park! Once apart the crank and rods were BRIGHT BLUE! with only one rod failing!
Apart from that I've run the rods as high as 10,200rpm consistantly at a race meeting and the regular limit of 9500rpm! with no signs of anything
Gary's engine started out with the shorter L18 rods with flat top TRW's and ran for over 9 seasons without dramas until Gary cracked the gudgeon pin bosses from all the axle tramp and I ran that engine regularly to 9000rpm and Gary doesn't shy from it either.
The engine now has the longer L16 rods in it with the lighter CP pistons and I'll think you'll be using 8-9000rpm quite often
I would prefer to use a forged steel Datsun rod than the billet rods out there
