2 Litre Sump Question

My query is one has a deeper pan then the other - why?
The section that sits behind the crossmember is about 1 inch deeper then the other. One is Stamped FoMoCo & the other is stamped 'Ford'
One is from an original Mk 2 RS motor (smaller one) and the deeper one is from a non RS Motor (sumps could have changed over time so I'm not saying either of these are factory original)
Do these patterns also fit a 1.6 Lt etc?
Can I run either sump in the car & would I need a different oil pick up (so it can go deeper)? Or sump guard??
