road car...steel good plastic bad,
competiton car, steel bad plastic good.
Plastic needs to be carefully attached to prevent spliting, bubling, and similar when steel and plastic flex and expand differently. there is also a big variation in plastic quality as they continue to set and sag over time and take onthe shape of what they lay on between mould and attachement.
steel is too expensive to risk on the track and will transfer impact load into shell where as plastic will tear off first...though steel may save the shell plastic might not? Steel needs carefull welding
cheers,
JP

Dude
If its just a road car, go either way, if you have $ to burn use steel.
If the thing is going anywhere near a race track or dirt road or any sort of competition go fibreglass.
Glass is MUCH easier and MUCH cheaper to fix when you run out of road.
The glass arches on my car have been on for about 20 years and have not shown any signs of cracks etc. They are simply glued on with a few rivets each arch and then bogged in.
Aaron can supply these (he has my old moulds!).
Cheers
