1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth in Moonstone Blue

This car was sold new to Ian Palmer of Palmer Tube Mills, Dick Johnson Racing’s major sponsor at that time in 1986 and imported into Australia along with Dick Johnson’s white car arriving in early 1987. The two cars also getting a mention in Graham Robson’s book “Sporting Fords Vol 4 Sierras” on page 67, my car has also featured in Fast Fours since I have owned it and won best modern classic at the first Autosalon in Sydney.

I have owned this vehicle for the last 15 yrs; it has never seen a salt covered road in the UK, only the dry tarmac of Oz, so no rust at all.
I have been slowly building it into a Group A road racer so it has had numerous modifications made to improve performance and reliability with a 450-500hp spec engine, but it looks relatively stock on the outside save for the forged Compomotive ’17 wheels.
It has spent much of its time in storage and as a 25yr old car has only 78K original miles on the clock, but as I now have kids I need to get something with 4drs and air conditioning!!

There is a large amount of spares and custom plates available with the vehicle and final price will be dependent on the buyers purchase specification.
Offers over $30K, contact Tony

Modifications include:
Bottom end rebuilt with all the best internals including Cosworth forged steel crank and rods, Mountune WRC forged pistons, ARP main bearing cap, rod, head and flywheel bolts.
Cylinder head ported and flowed by RAMS head service with Isky double valve springs, custom larger valves, new hydraulic buckets.
Garret T35 ball bearing turbo supplied by Precision Turbo’s
Graham Goode Racing Stage 3 chip, Green injectors and 3 Bar Map sensor
Custom intercooler
Custom radiator and oil cooler
Custom oil catch tank and breather system
Custom 3” TIG welded stainless steel exhaust
Full Samco hose set for water and boost hoses, Speedflow connectors used in entire engine bay.
Custom fuel system with Bosch motorsport pump
Rebuilt suspension with Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs and super-pro bushes and alloy strut brace.
And too many more items to list:

Hi Jas,

Yes, it's me and the car!! It's been back on the road since 2004 and at various times been my daily transport, when I've not had a company car.

No longer doing Snap-On, I am the Australian agent for Stand 21 Racewear which along with the kids keeps me very busy and no time for the Cossie.

How are things in the Snowy's, do you still have the Grp C RS2000?

Great to see the cossy finished Tony it looks great. I certainly miss mine. I sold the RS a few years back now, it belongs to a guy in Melbourne who is on here as well. The RS has been put back to Group C and now has all the livery the same as it did when John English Raced it. I believe the guy who owns it plans to race it in some Group C events (I just hope it doesn't become a statistic). It was a Great little car.

I also have a couple of kids these days so am currently without an RS however I plan to get back in to a small degree one day soon. A 4 door RS2 or some thing that can handle the family - not that they are that interested.

I recently moved to Bathurst mate so am now here for a few years at least. I am now a Supervising Fisheries Officer so I look after 1/3 of the state, all of the western region including the Darling, Murray etc etc, so I get to travel heaps and see some interesting parts of the outback and meet some characters.

Do you still keep in touch with Michael and Elliot or any of the other guys we used to knock around with?

Good to here from you.

Pictures look awesome, I miss that car greatly. If you ever decide to sell it PM me first. Were you able to use the head that I had on the car for Group C (Done by Kevin Bartlet - braised center cam bearing post) and the 48 IDA's.

Hi Jason,
Thanks it does look good doesn't it. When Frank Lowndes built the engine we weren't allowed to use that head due to the porting, etc. We put the 48's on and it went well. For a 1976 spec car it was quicker than the 105 Alfa even with the crappy tyres and first time out...

I think i'll keep it for a while, I'd like to make the Lakeside round later in the year and do more as its dirt cheap to race and run compared to the Mustang and Falcon!

Hope to see you on the track soon,
Nev (Big Rev)

Good stuff Nev.

If you want to sell the head let me know. I have all the stuff here to build a decent pinto besides a head.

Hi Jason,
i think I'll keep it with the car, we will probably build a spare motor soon. You know how it goes, the motor always lets go on the Friday morning practice never on Sunday afternoon driving it on the trailer....

Regards,
Nev.

No worries Nev.

Probably doesn't make much sence me paying for it again any way.
