Hi Guys
Found this on Ebay, claims to be one of the 25 imported originals. VIN number is BFATPA00215R. Currently listed for $1000. I had a MK2 german car and know that its compliance plates actually stated RS2000 on them, I have no knowledge of what the MK1s had. I am sure one of you guys will be able to confirm if its authentic.

I saw that too, Vin is 'unusual' as most would expect a C at the beginning for any Aus Escort. Looks like it would take a bit to put it back to original. Doesn't say what it was log booked as either.

Assembled in Saarlouis in Germany if they were from the same factory as the Mk2 German RS. And I would have said they were German not english. They were for various markets however including the English.

He says in his ebay advert that he has set a reserve. He must have forgot to include it in his ebay item as he has bids but the 'reserve not met' flag does not show. I think the car just sold!!!!!

MK2 RS2000's chassis numbers start with 'GCAT'
MK1 RS2000's chassis numbers start with "BFAT'
If the number is the correct number for the shell then it is the real deal. there are a heap of other differences between a BFAT shell and a CK49 shell but you wouldnt be able to tell without getting underneath it.

a BFAT shell has a few telltale things that a ck shell does not have
its pretty easy to spot the diferences if you know what to look for

Some dodgey ebaying going on there. the listing has now ended but currently shows zero bids even though it previously had 2!!!!!!!
No doubt he will create a new ebay identity and do it all again......

Or someone made him an offer that he was happy with and he ended the auction early. That's happened when I had my X Pack listed on eBay.

To fill in a few blanks and correct a few things written above:
- This car was apparently sold on saturday
- the seller knew of this car off and on for about 20yrs before buying it a while ago
- the buyer 'worked on it' years ago
- when the buyer worked on it years ago it had none of the 4 tags ie 2 Ford Aust, AVO and build/trim tags
- it was sold with no tags
- furthermore this car had a passenger seat mounted on the pillar type seat mounts(incorrect for an RS vehicle)
- the chassis no. stamping was not sighted ,covered with too many paint layers! (I'm guessing it was falsley stamped, mistakenly including the letter R on the end)
- the advertised chassis no. came from a CAMS log book with the car starting early 80's
- the R at the end of the chassis no. comes off the FORD Australia compliance plate and
should not be on the original chassis stamping done by Ford (UK) probably at AVO factory
Note: the 25 imported RS mk2's from 1976 were assembled in Germany hence we call THEM German Mk2's but mk1 RS's are all made in UK at the AVO plant. (read the books)
- A car with correct identity (chassis no. colour etc)was registered with NSW RTA throughout the 90's then dissappeared, was a registered vehicle in Vic from 2000 to 2003 and is currently known to 3 RSOC clubs as an authentic vehicle with original(not remanufactured ) tags ,chassis stampings etc

When are people going to learn that you can't get away with anything shady these days as those with all of the correct knowledge are only a mouse click away from each other??
