It's looking extremely likely that Groups Nb and Nc are getting a run at Bathurst this Easter. You need a National license to run and I was panicking about getting off my P's in time but just found out, as of 1st September you only have to do 3 Cams race meetings to upgrade. Yee-ha. I have done 3. State round is on in 2 weeks so I will go and do my flags, then I can apply for my upgrade.
Bathurst here we come.
Cheers Peter

Yeah Peter they've just changed the requirements for staying off your P's as you only have to do a meeting every 4 years which is a pain as they announced it the week after I ran at Morgan Park as I ran for the old one meeting every two years to keep off the P's

Almost ready for Bathurst after much work on the twink by my brother Colin at Cam Automotive. Pulled the motor down for a check over as I have done 4 meetings since buying the car. Everything looked brand new so the bottom end will go back together with just new rings and bearings. Had a few cracks in the welds on the sump so had a mate fix that up. Pulled the head apart as there was a bit of corrosion around some of the water galleries which we thought might need a weld. Did a bit of work on the ports while the head was apart. The inlet ports were around 42mm while the carbs are 45 so we have matched them up. Also changed the combustion chambers and exhaust ports a bit, light skim off head which cleaned up the corrosion, re-cut seats and lapped in valves. Hopefully get a bit more out of it although the headers are still a bit small and will hold it back. Pulled the gearbox down as 3rd gear synchro was a bit slow. Couple of broken springs and a couple of stuffed synchros but everything else looked good. Pulled the struts out as it had 4.5 degrees of neg with no adjustment so we put the adjustable top mounts out of the tarmac car in so at least we can play around. We have also gone slightly stiffer in the front springs. Pulled the rear shocks out and had them rebuilt as they had been bottoming out and one had a bent shaft. Raised the ride height while we were at it to stop the shocks bottoming. Changed the cwp, crack tested axles, had uni's changed as there was a bit of slack in 1 and re-balanced the tail shaft. Should all be back together tomorrow or Thursday. All things going well should have a shakedown on Friday. Cant wait.
Cheers Peter

Hi Peter,

Sounds like you've been busy!

Good luck at Bathurst! Where are you shaking the car down? At Winton?

Cheers,

Mike.

I've done bugger all Mike. Colin has done it all. He's also been working on Ted Perkins' Cortina for Bathurst and helping John with IYK for the GP. Busy boy.
Yep hopefully getting to Winton. Bit of a way to go yet. Might turn out to be shake down on the Seaford Industrial Estate Grand Prix Circuit.
Cheers Peter

Managed to get the car running today after a few gremlins. Fuel pump cut out decided to chuck a fit and the distributor decided it didnt want to play. By-passed the fuel cut-out and took the dissy out of the tarmac car for tomorrow. Ran it in on the dyno so off to Winton tomorrow to see how the suspension mods work out. Still needs a bit of fine tuning but we can do that on the dyno next week after we get the distributor back. All fingers crossed for tomorrow. Might have a problem with tire clearance at the front because we have taken a fair bit of neg out so looking at buying some smaller tyres and changing the cwp again if we have to.
