since my car hasn't been getting used that much and isn't actually going atm, i looked into club rego, but i found it didn't really work out as cheap as i thought, normal rego is around the 650 a year, club is 450 incl ctp that is 318 the same ctp rate for the normal rego, it gave a few quotes from other insurancers but they were the same + i have to join a club etc pay there fees and get someone from the club to certify it is 30 years old
so i hear some v8 guys are getting around paying 180 a year ?? but is this bullcrap or is it because there is a different rate for older cars ??
anyone else on club rego ??

There's probably a difference between 'club' and 'historic'. dad has a couple of cars on historic rego and, like you said, is about 180.

I just swapped my rs onto special interest rego last month - $181 / year. If your doing the online quote change the ctp to class 5 for historic - should only be about $53.

Here in VIC we have.
45 day permit = $66.10
90 day permit = $129.60
Plus the cost of Club Permit, so for $180 a year (plus insurance) you are away.
Cheers

Has anything changed with this? last time i checked you can do bugger all in the car and the fines are quite high if you are caught.

One of the many problems with our great country is the difference in varying rules for each state.
The sooner we progress to one set of rules for the entire country the better! Provided they choose the best option fro each state.
Here in Vic we can register a 25 year old vehicle on club plates as long as the affiliated club has deemed it safe. Most clubs require a Roadworthy Inspection and fair enough - to cover their asses.
This increases the number of members in the car clubs and promotes the use of cars for what ever use you want as long as a log book is kept so you can go for a Sunday cruise or club event with out any hassles for the cops etc..
As we all rarely (mostly) use these cars it makes sense to have a system that takes this into account and charges accordingly.
Cheers
Matt

yea i only got the poverty pack, so might rule out rs owners, but i don't care if i can't do much as it ain't going anywhere over the next year. so can return to normal rego when the time comes i guess, have to try and get more involved with motorsport so theres no need to drive it on the road me thinks

Hey Grant, welcome back!
Just wondering myself, with classic rego, does the club run have to be your club or can you join another clubs run if you are welcome or drive to an event not attended by your club?
As for limits, i believe it is 15km distance from home for testing purposes, which gives me a nice 40km loop i can do, including Lakeside, or further if you are getting work done, so carry a set of shocks or a carby in the boot just in case...
Great to know that about the RS Owners,
Cheers, Mick
