Phillip IslandClassic 2011What an awesome weekend, 4 Mk2 Escorts battling for the Group C under 2ltr trophy.
Fast, hard and skilled racing by newby's (me) and seasoned veterans (Bob Holden).
Check out the photos on
http://www.SDPics.com for the great action shots showing the cars going toe-to-toe.
All the lap times are at
http://www.natsoft.com.au, check out the Sunday morning group A/C race
Greg Keam and I finished 0.2 of a second part (I was in front

)
Nev, we need you at the next race to add to the fun in your RS...

The car looked fantastic on the circuit. Was good to see a bunch of Escorts rather than just the normal pair in Group C.

Thanks G,
I really enjoyed the hard racing, even though its nowhere as quick as the Mustang, the Escort has many of its own thrills. I was watching the in car footage and really enjoyed diving under the Torana's; its p!sses them off. I'm looking for some taller tyres to help limit the revs on the front straight...I was buzzing it a but high.
With the new engine, I was able to out drag Greg from behind him off the start to turn 1 in Race 3, very pleased with that. I now need to tighten up the suspension so it doesn't wonder....and loose about 20-30 Kg's from around my waiste!
Glad to hear you enjoyed watching the races, I hope to have it out allot this year...looking forward to a wet Winton in the future maybe.
See ya,

300-400 more revs than F Lowndes said the red line limit was...I had to so I could stay in front of Greg.
The only bag tyres I can get are the Hoosiers that are not tall enough, even with the 3.50 diff.
We need crossplys that are at least 22" tall and 8" wide...that would be perfect.

About 7400, for a legal 1976 Group C spec engine that's toooooo many.

OK, everyone has an opinion and a budget, my budget doesn't appear to be as large as others in the forum.
I had, in my opinion, someone build a stong legal engine. It was strong enough and equal to Bob Holdens engines so, in my opinion, that shows in Group C terms this is great engine.
If your engine builder says don't rev it past a certain point then that should be your red line...right?
Maybe I should edit my statement from 'About 7400, for a legal 1976 Group C spec engine that's toooooo many.' to
'About 7400, for my legal 1976 Group C spec engine and that's toooooo many.'
does that satisfy eveyone?
Nev.

Nev I would have clarified it further as a 1976 "period" engine as alot of them would struggle against a good road engine now as they all tended to follow each other as alot of the developments that have come out since would still be legal with those rules but people still follow the leader
