Tanz's new toy

I've had this one for almost 12 months now, always wanted the pair, a Mk1 and Mk2. Hopefully I'll have them both going at the same time one day. It will be another gravel spec car, this time hopefully using the Zetec. I bought the shell from Belly.
Image
The day it arrived home!
Image
It was pretty well rust free, just the patches at the bottom of the rear screen and a little up front. Unfortunately the rear 1/4's had some absolute wicked warpage going on and the roof skin was loose as, it would appear that a previous owner (not Belly) had replaced them at some stage but hadn't supported the shell to stop deformation. A bit of metalworking with heat improved it, and a skim of bog had the shell looking reasonably straight. Seeing as my intent was to use the car on gravel, I didn't go overboard although the shell prep did take around 6 months. It came with a set of tarmac flares, and the rear wheel arches had already been done.

Image The cage was next on the cards. I hired a guy to come up from Brisbane to bend the pipe for my car, another Escort and two Excel Rally cars one weekend. Cold Drawn Seamless wasn't available at the time so we bought Cold Drawn Welded. By getting a few cages done at the same time we reduced the cost to under $600 per car. I did the welding, no fancy TIG here, just the trusty old MIG (well not so trusty as it died  ), all the welding although not pretty is strong!
Image
I couldn't come to grips with the size of the Tarmac Flares, so I bought a set of Forest Flares from Geoff Wade thumbup.gif
Image
All primed up and ready for some colour.
Image
Silver was the chosen Colour. I've never painted a metallic before, it's a little patchy but I'm more than happy with it.
Image
A splash of Blue to brighten the picture. I'm still debating whether or not to add more Blue, I'll wait until it's stickered up and see if it needs more.

New seats I got for my birthday last November. partydance.gif

Pedal Box manufactured by Paul Dunstan :prayer:
I've fitted up some of Kingy's glass bumpers, but don't seem to have taken any pictures [imsorry.gif But they do set it off nicely.

Great to finally see that it actually exists

And yes, before you start - it will be dodging trees well before mine has turned a wheel

Maybe the Mk1 mishap was a sign? Time to get this one on the stages?

Love the silver and blue. bravo.gif

Picture of the front end with some stupidly light bumpers!

Toyota Dyna roof vent. Fits both Mk1 and Mk2 quite nicely!

Oh, and the seats are fitted. How much is too much Blue? I'm getting Blue Harnesses and ordered a Blue Suede Steering Wheel. bouncyblue.gif

Hey Tanz,

With your driving of late you're gonna need bigger bumpers than those

Blue mudflaps, yes a must! thumbup.gif

Kingy did mention that glass bumpers are much cheaper to replace when I mentioned I liked his Carbon ones that he supplies!

Thought I should give an update!

Almost completed, decided to use the Pinto from the Mk1 for the time being.
Image
Would have had it registered by now, but with the weather putting a hold on all Rally events so far this year I stripped it down and did a bit more development work.

hey Tanz

what wheel spacers are you using ??

I have been looking at the same style of bolt on units & will most likely go with a stud pattern change to allow better choice of 14inch rims

cheers
Scott

Scott,

I got them from one of the guys on the classic ford forum, it was a few years back. I have since removed them, as after I'd wound some Castor into the front end, when I had the car on full lock the tyres were picking up on the front guards.

Cheers.
