RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

I figured it was about time I made a thread for my projects. Not got a lot on the go at the moment as the family endures a house extension, but still manage to find half a weekend to continue tinkering.

Toy number 1, and the cause of 50% my grey hair, is the Durascort. It came into my hands as a project car that never started. The '73 shell and a 2006 focus motor landed at my house in late Feb this year, and I've been slowly plugging away at it with the goal of getting a full rego on it. The initial conversion was relatively straight forward, the licensing side of it is a bit of a head ache. Some pics and details below. I know that a couple of the Perth guys are about to embark on this conversion, and I welcome you guys to get in contact if you want to have a look. I have in no way done this conversion 'by the book', most all of the work done has been done by me, at home with limited resources but it may help you decide on a particular direction with your own projects. At this stage I have got a reasonable tune to have a go at the 5 gas test but its a way of yet as at the tune on Friday it turns out my fuel supply system is woefully inadequate, and I have to drop the motor again to fix an incorrectly functioning front gearbox seal .

Toy 2 is the other 50% of the greys! Wifey and I got a 3dr RS Cossie recently, we have just finished the exterior to bring it up to a RS500 replica. We were let down a bit by the pin-striping on the side, I'm not happy with it's positioning, but the rest is good, really looks the part. She is at Stage 3 but a little tired, she still goes strong, and although we are doing some sprints and stuff, we are treating her gently. I'll get some pics up of her soon.

Thanks Gary, getting there slowly with the Escort. Inexperience is my biggest burden at the moment, but getting there. just doing everything a couple of times 'till I get it right.

Gee, time gets away doesn't it!

Having contributed zero for the last year, it's time to pick up the horse again. The Durascort had a nice trailer bought for it earlier in the year, bought about by my deteriorating attitude towards playing the 'lets get it registered' game. The process just sucked the fun out of what was supposed to be a fun project, not to mention the cost involved V's the actual gain (I know many of you had said that in the beginning :) ). So she is now just a track day car, and as my enthusiasm grows back, I'll look at B reg.

Any-ways, it finally made it to the track for some testing, and went ok. Still a good list of things that need looking at, namely something I've done within the ECU that brings the soft limit on at 5500rpm. I think it's something to do with coolant temp calibration which the computer looks at when determining the rev limit. I'll stumble around in the software and see if I can fix it. The handling was average, might poor some of the money saved on rego into something decent there. And the last major issue that's plagued me from the start is the low pressure fuel pump, it has a mind of its own and likes to stop filling the swirl pot and random times, so it's ripped out and will source a holley red or something.

Ha, ha! Was working on that tonight Matt. Seat is bolted in fine, it's just slop in the mechanism that allows the seat back to fold forward. I'm a bit lost on how to fix it short of fixing it permanently.

Working hard to get all the issues sorted, want to have a run at the last sprint round on Sunday.

Well, Sunday went ok. Fuel issue fix ..... again.

My army driving instructor would be so happy with my push-pull steering ............... makes me want to kick my own arse.

Plenty of room to improve so looking forward to next year.
