Hi all,
Great to be a part of the forum .
New to the escort world i have just adopted a MK1 2door im planning to build into a fun street/sprint/hillclimb car,Well thats the current plan. The car has been paint stripped by someone and left to die and this is where i have taken the car in.Plans include bubbles half cage and (getting ready for the flamming) an FJ20et engine as i have a full combination available to me at the right price.Unfortunatly I will be saving and building at the same time so will be building to a budget to get the car together in a resonable time frame.Just about the whole of the work on the car will be all me with help off some good friends,My last build was a Datsun 1200 ute with the same engine geared towards the drag seen and have learnt frome some of my mistakes one being not setting what im going for in the begining with a relistic to what i can achieve in my budget.
So far i have stripped off the damaged gaurds bonnet and have had the shell sand blasted and etch primed and than scuffed and primed the car to start the various rust repairs and start on the Rust/bubble arch/Tunnel mods ect.

From back here that look slike a great shell! Did the blaster miss the splash guards? They look a littel rusty still! Did they blast the roof? No issue with warping the panels?
Feel free to ask the forum as many questions as needed. Good to have you on board.

Thanks for the welcome.Yeah the engine bay ect wasn't goin to be blasted as i was concearned how long it would all take at the cost per hour so none of the forward inside gaurd area really got done but had the rad support area ect where there was plenty of surface rust did.The roof ect was blasted and i cant see any warpage,The shell is looking pretty good for what initial condition looked like.Left hand sill needs replacing and floor on that side.Rear quarter panels have been worked on in the past so have a bit of filling and shaping there and of coarse the lower quarter in the spare wheel recess is pretty much non excistint.I was very worried about panel warpage ect when i was looking into blasting but dipping was out of my budget and any other media blasting wasnt going to move the surface rust the old girl had, after a few calls i found a fella in Guanaba(Q.L.D) who does blasting told him about my worries and he responded by telling me about the correct preasure/angles to blast at controling heat the blasting creates ect and that yes when he first started he warped a few panels its now been over 20 years and after looking at my shell i think hes come through with the goods,The greatest part was,all of what he did for me took three hours so while its basically $200 an hour it only cost $600 including etch priming for me. AS i was preping the etch for the primer i did find small specs of original paint here and there but otherwise very happy

Jason. I have the lower quarter section brand new if you need it. Also got some spare new sills. I should have shown them to you when you called last Sunday for the panel. Good luck with the project. Cheers Rob

I assume the 40 foot container is full of goodies?
Jason, I had mine sand blasted minus the doors, boot, bonnet and roof and that too cost me $600 inc etch so I think you got a good price. Now I have the awfull job of manually depainting the other bits....I am still hopefully my lad will help out

HI again,The fj20 et combo i have purchased is out of a friends written off Dr30 skyline With 13B turbo injectors as they are a straight fit and are 660cc. microtech LT10s coil per plug set up ect.On Dyson rotory's dyno in 05 it made 326 rwhp on 20psi on optimax with a missmatched apexi/ihi turbo. The turbo will be changed as the manifold was made to have a t04z but adapted for at the time availible ihi turbo, good thing is the ihi rolls out and will foul on the escort engine bay but the t4 will roll towards the cam cover and will also be lower and hopfully make similar power on less boost.
Tyre size im not 100% sure on I think i really want to go 15inch in the rims but will be looking for advice when it comes to tyre/ suspension set up as im new to making a car handle .
Roger iam hoping i did the right thing i found an RN25 diff and jumped at it while availible as thet seem hard to find.
Picture is the actual engine iam putting in,you can see what i mean about the turbo rolling away from the engine but the t4 will hug the cam cover.

Thanks for the welcomes and positive feel from all.It goes to show making it a little harder to join the forum leads to a more positive helpfull site of members,I know what it can be like as i am on boostcruising and the site seams to be turning into a bunch of people just trying to burn each other.

Yeah itll probabley be more power than i need as the only track i have raced is willowbank (drag),Yes rego wise in Queensland it will be no problem as it only goes off weight of vehical to capacity not power output. The escort being rated at a factory(I believe 805kg)Fits in for a 2 litre turbo by 5kg as by Q.L.D transport a vehical under 1100kg you calculate the kg of the car by 2.5 for a forced induction car.
