RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

I have decided to do a bit of circuit racing so yesterday bought a group n twin cam [72 GT 1600]. Another red pepper one. It is a genuine car with a good rust free shell that needs a bit of tidy up, has a good all steel motor, quaife box, good suspension. Should be a bit of fun. I will load some pics as soon as I get the car home.

I went for my Cams observed license test today. I had to at the last minute use my tarmac rally car as the group n car hasn't turned up from Qld yet. The car was last driven in rally Tasmania February '06 [ a bit embarrassing but my other twink hasn't been driven for 6 years we worked out. ] so a fair bit of work and checking had to be done in 4 days to get it ready. My brother performed miracles and had it on the road in a couple of days after getting told. It ran perfectly on the road until late yesterday when we ran it on the dyno and it developed a strange electrical problem in the ignition circuit. 10.30 last night and a few scotches later we decided we might have found it so put it on the trailer. It developed a different problem on the first lap which turned out to be a dud spark plug. Changed the plug and realized what a great car I have had sitting in my brothers workshop for so long. Once again the car punched way above it's weight and makes you realise what a great package Ford built. It is a fairly basic car compared to what some people try to build but is nicely set up and is a dream to drive and puts in very respectable lap times. I think there are some people that over think building an Escort. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are surprised by how well a basic looking Escort can go. I had a ball and got the right signatures so can now go circuit racing if my car ever turns up. I cant wait. I just have to find enough time.

Finally got the car down to Melbourne. Becuse the car is low and a race car I was quoted between $1275 and $1750 and had to get the car to depots in Brisbane and then pick up the car from the depots in Melbourne.
If anyone needs a car transported interstate the guy I used was great, Ben Lang 0414 735558, reliable, helpful and a nice guy. $660 from Warwick to my door. I could not recommend him highly enough.
Now the work starts on the tidy up.
