RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

Well, this will be my third Mk1 Escort build, but the first one in a very long time. I wasn't really planning on starting another Escort for a while, but a starting point as good as this doesn't come along very often. Compared with other cars I have fixed recently the body is quite good so it shouldn't eat up too much time to prepare.

However, I don't have a shed to put it all in yet so I have to pull my finger out and arrange that first. The escort will just sit where you see it in the photos for a few months to come yet. I might start stripping the interior and doing a bit of measuring up but nothing too much until it has a home.

Hmm.....

One of the extras that it came with is a pedal box. Wilwood 0.625 & 0.75 cylinders. Does anyone know what brand the pedal box is and are they any good?

There's talk in another thread in the General forum about colour schemes and I'm not completely decided yet for this car. I don't mind this combination, the lighter shade is called Champagne and the darker is called Sovereign, both Ford colours from the late '70s early '80s.

That pedal box looks to be a Rally Design item. I have no first hand experience but have heard much negatives about them. Probably more suited to a street car that needs engine bay room, but not much good for a weekend, or full on race Escort is what I have heard.

Oh, love the colour combo. Maybe a shade darker with the stripes.

Hi Scott. Just finished my first big Uni Assignment, so I've been in hiding for the last 5 days. The new photos make it look even better than HYP04 took. Lucky so'n'so.
That paint scheme on the Mustang looks fanastic, but it could be a problem if you have to do a minor repair/scratches, because this one is going to be a genuine race car isn't it? Looking forward to the progress on this.

Yes Darren, hopefully this will be a no compromises race car. I don't have the $$ or experience of Danny and Gary, but at least if I build it for IP I've got someone to aim at. Looking to fabricate as much as I can for it myself, I'm pretty sure I can manage that.

It's not as good as dad's car as far as the body is concerned but it is by far the best starting point for a rebuild/racebuild that I've ever had.

I'd like to have it ready by the TTT day next year, but that depends on how quickly I organise getting a shed built.

Currently investigating diffs, fully floating axles and rear negative camber. I have a Hilux diff at my disposal as well as some kind of BW, Skyline or Pintara I'm not sure....

I think if I used those same colours I probably wouldn't do stripes like the Mustang, maybe just a 2-tone split along the top of the guards and under the windows. The Mustang is in clear over metallic base Acrylic, I'd try to use 2-pack on the Escort as the finish off the gun is incomparable. (If I can do it right!)

Hi Darren, Once the bigger brakes go on the 12's will pretty much be useless so I'll let you know, don't hold your breath though, it might take some time!

Jake, the puppies haven't torn up anything automotive to date so no need for extermination just yet. Pissed on a few tyres but that's about it. Got approval for the shed from the other half last week so no need there either!

Keep them well supplied with other items to destroy...
