Hello All,
Just discovered this site last week.
I'm Perth based and have a new toy:
I have started to strip and have mounted on a spit:
Am planning on a RS2000 replica - already have a pinto, 6 clock dash, new sills (SMCKA), new front floors (SMCKA). Next weekend will start cutting out the rot. Any advice and local contacts would be welcome.
Paul.

Continued to cut out the rot over the weekend. Got the LHS sill and front floor cut out:
I need to fabricate a few repair panels for the inner sill prior to welding in the floor repair panel and new sill. Any ideas where I can get appropriate sheet steel from in Perth (0.8 steel panel)? Short term I have an old door skin I can use.
Drivers floor looks worse and i reckon i'll have to remove the front seat mount bracket to repair (more bloody spot weld drilling).

A quick update. I painted the car over the Xmas/New Year break and it now looks like:
It's acrylic paint so now I have the wonderful task of buffing back to get a decent shine.

On Friday I did the last of painting and compounding for the time being. I'm not 100% happy with the finish, but have been told to leave the paint to breath for 4 weeks+ prior to polishing or waxing.
But then again the more shine I get, the more the imperfections show...
Over the weekend started with the lights and grills etc

Looks great so far....
However ff you can be patient enough to wait... It'll be much easier rubbing and polishing a shell with no 'ad ons'..

Last week my Mk1 did it's first trip around the block!
It's a bubble arched Mk1 running a standard Mk2 2ltr Ghia drivetrain/suspension/etc.
Please can I have some advice on wheels? It's currently running the Mk2 13"x5.5 ghia rims which look pathetic in the bubble arches. Performance Rims do the superlite in a 13"x8 which will fill the arches fantastically but i'm worried the 13's will limit brake choices! There doesn't seem to be much in the way of 14" wide rims, but again a great range with 15s. Will the 15's look too big for a Mk1????
Please can anyone help me with what will fit (and maybe tyre sizes too)?
Thanks.

awesome! i'm in Perth too, can't wait to see it out and about.
i think the rims in the attached pic are 15"'s and they look good, don't look too big ( pic from another forum, not mine )

Darren W's car also looks fine on 15's, albeit without Bubble arches

I think 15's would look awesome.
Any bigger will start to look to comical and not practical.
I want superlite/minilight type rims in a 15" on my Mk1 Van albeit without the arches.
Plus with 15's you should be able to fit a brake package with upto about a 300mm disc, whereas the 13's would limit it to around a 250mm disc.

Almost finished - Took for a 5Km drive last weekend with no dramas or leaks!
Now running twin webers too
It's got the lowered king springs at the front but still seems way too high so i'm investigating the coilover options.
What do you think?

No Im not you
what offset did you get on those rims?
Ive got an atlas LSD diff which is +40mm over standard
and they look about right offset.
PS dont forget to upgrade the brakes... Larger wheels means you have effectively made your brakes less effective.

Paul, if you look at some factory MK1's, they were real high at the front. But i guess you wont be doing any rallying, so go for the lowered tarmac MK1 RS2000.
Top looking car!
