Hi Danny - I've ordered the standard mount version - but am in the process of trying to address the bumpsteer issue (part of the reason for change the cross member in the first place).
I've seen a nice post using a laser pointed mounted parallel to the hub then removing the spring and plotting the toe through the arc of the suspension compression. Currently my TCA and steering arms almost form an X - so far from ideal.
Not much done this weekend - busy keeping "her in doors" happy with painting the kitchen and bedroom!
It's always worth watching the local adverts - I managed to stumble over a guy selling a fibre glass boot and bonnet which I duely collected Saturday AM:
Between waiting for coats of paint to dry I did also lopoed off the WCXM steering mounts and re-welded so they now fit:
Also slotted the engine mounts so it now also fits the engine:
A good weekend - First 2WD and first P3 in the WARC Experts Cup
We had a greta battle with the young Dylan King also in a Mk2; we trailed by 8 seconds with two stages to go, we pulled back 10 seconds on the 2nd last stage and then got another 5 seconds on the last stage to secure the class win. Calling the notes at night while Blair drove 11/10ths fully committed was exciting.
I saw the blue Mk2 in action, looked good. I only caught the first run in the day light. It was good to see a few escorts in the mix. At the IROQ there were only two escorts entered and they both broke!
1) Engine is back together and installed using the group 4 WCXM. The bumpsteer angles look a lot better but arn't perfect and i'll consider the rosejointed track rod ends and drop bolts to fine tune.
2) I have been working with a mate to re-shell his rolled gravel car into this:
3) Given the next event was a few weekends away I got busy on my other shell:
Glued and glassed
Fibre inpregated bog, then fine filler
Roughed out with 36 grit and hit with primer
While I was playing with the fibreglass I decided to make a molding of the boot internals to fit to the skins I got the other week:
which resulted in:
This Sunday is the first of the McRae Rallysprints at the Kwiana Motorplex, so hopefully the white car will hang together for all 6 runs this time (I still haven't actually completed an event this year yet!)
My 2012 curse continues; Halfway into the first of six stages the oil cooler line blew off the block
After being towed back to the pit I filled it back with oil and the engine sounds OK so fingers crossed no permanent damage (I was flat out in 4th down the drag strip at the time). 30seconds later the hose blew off again so it was duly loaded onto the trailer. Apparently you can get the lines swaged onto the fittings so I’ll get them dropped off next week.
Danny: They are the blue Gates 1/2" oil cooler hose rated to 300PSI. I'm suspecting the push-on fittings are not the best as once hot the barbs did very little it the way of gripping (yes I used clamps too).
Had a free morning today so got cracking on with the bodywork on the new car:
Thats the 2nd application of high build filler. I still have a few wobbles around the swage lines but pretty happy otherwise. I'll see what it looks like once blocked back.
