Just to close out this out: The VSCC WA have clarified that it is a VSCC penalty so my state rally aspirations will not be impacted. As for the incident, as Crusey pointed out it was a regularity so I shouldn't have been pushing so hard, as we were lapping around my target time. Also apparently we had been told only to pass on the right - I thought this was just a "gentleman’s agreement" between the Escorts and Cortina’s but obviously on the track I’m far from a gentleman.
So I have to officiate at the next VSCC hillclimb then will be able to enter the historic round in Septemeber
The VSCC president just called me - CAMS believe the VSCC have let me off too lightly and want a fine imposed! You gotta love these guys! I'll find out on Monday what the outcome is. At this stage it's a no win situation - I feel if I object they'll just up the fine to prove a point, so i'm leaning towards going in all apologetic and hope for the best
So Monday's meeting was with the VSCC Clerk of course. CAMS have stated they wanted me to be fined $200 plus the one event suspension - I presented a factual letter of my version of events and showed the in-car footage. They couldn't find the incident report and the only associated paper work had different car numbers on it.
So they agreed it must have been mistaken identity and agreed to drop the issue.
Then...
Last night I got an email from the VSCC secretary saying CAMS are still not happy - it was the "driving standards" observer who reported me and that is why the paperwork is lacking. I have to pay the $200 afterall, have my CAMS license endorsed with the infringement and serve the one event suspension!
CAMS will not accept the in-car footage if I do appeal. Apparently since I did not presented it at the event I may have now "tampered with it". So it will be my word against the official and I will lose as the reg's clearly state the stewards decision is final. It will also cost me $'s to appeal and as a result the stewards can also increase the penalty too. Just to really wind me up the other driver, along with not getting any penalty, got a prize for winning the regulaity during that event!
Has anyone else ever been down the CAMS tribunal path? Is it worth it or do I simply swallow my pride?
Crusey: I've "grown up" racing the clock (Rally), not other cars
Group5: Yeah - i'm considering the LF performance stuff for next year with the Duratec engine.
Small update: I have now been in touch with CAMS who directed me to the regional manager who seems reasonably supportive of my case (admittedly he only has my side of the story at this stage). He's pointed out the clerk of course who awarded the penalty was supposed to get the Stewards agreement first and also did not have the authority to issue a suspension from future events. Also the VSCC did not have authority to dismiss the infringement last Monday. So basically the officials have stuffed up at several levels.
The infringement on the day was not ratified by the Stewards so was not in accordance with NCR 185. I was also mislead in my options and the 1 event suspension issued by the clerk of course was in direct conflict with NCR 193(i). So after I escalated to CAMS HO they told the Steward to drop the issue.
The Steward then issued me a new infringement, charge sheet and fine personally delivered to my home address last Friday.
This then did not allow me the right of reply as per NCR 185(iii). Also the infringement was based on a DSO who was not nominated in the supp regs (as per NCR 67(v)) and was a verbal notification with no written incident report submitted to the CoC (see NCR 180). Also the new Infringement notice and fine sheet had the wrong car number listed on it. This was supposed to be going to a Stewards hearing this Sunday but fortunately CAMS have stepped in under NCR 171 and put an end to it all.
I have heard subsequently that the Steward had managed to "find" a copy of the incident report which was to have been presented on Sunday....
Anyhow as per the video I didn't pass under yellow conditions so I have always maintained I was innocent as charged and it's a shame we have had to be dragged through the above for common sense to prevail. I would like to thank Ben Pretty of CAMS, and the VSCCWA for their support and help. I will not be entering any future events where Rod Style is nominated as the Chief Steward.
Since I didn't have to go and defend my honor with the CAMS Stewards I got a bit of shed time. The other weekend I finally got round to using the mould I made on my boot inner. On Saturday I glued the new inner to the skin I got off gumtree last year and trail fitted to the shell:
It's got a high corner on the front left and will need a bit of a trim here and there but over-all is fit for purpose. I haven't checked the difference in weight from the steel version but it is significantly lighter.
I then started on welding in the sill stands mounts. At the front the tube goes through the sill and is tagged to the rollcage leg. At the rear I have picked up the originally jacking point and extended outwards then gussted back to the floor which happens to be directly below the main hoop.
I started the base coat this weekend. I'm still trying to get the hang of this acrylic paint. My first attempt was way too wet and ended up in a horrible run down across the C-pillar and arch. Fortunately this stuff dries mega quick so I could rub back on Sunday and try again.

The passenger side looks OK in the picture, but it has reacted with the clear coat I applied on the previous trial coat of orange so has blistered in several areas:
