My First Mk2

I’ve got 6 Mk1’s at the moment in varying states and owned a few in the past but this is the first Mk2 I’ve ever owned. I bought it recently from a friend of mine who bought it earlier this year. He only had it for 2 weeks when it was stolen and resprayed with a spray can to disguise it, the seats, belts, extinguisher, plates etc were ripped out of it and it was found some weeks later abandoned. They managed to get all the paint off it but it still has a bit of overspray left to deal with and a few battle scars that need fixing. He got it going again then did a couple of race meetings and it ran the mains and screwed the crank so he lost interest. It was sent off to be rebuilt and advertised for sale. When he told me what it had in it I new I couldn’t build it for anywhere near what he was asking and I just couldn’t help myself, I had to have it.
I picked it up with a fresh unused engine with brand new FIA seats and belts for probably close to what the engine is worth alone. I’ve since treated it myself to a modified alloy sump and floating pickup just for insurance as it’s an expensive engine and didn’t want to take any risks.
Some brief specs
Sierra Crank
O Ringed block
Grower Rods
Wisco pistons
Eslinger Roller rockers / cam
Big valves
Extensive head work
Twin DCOE’s
Tilton twin plate clutch
Lightweight flywheel
Quaife 4 speed box
Quaife diff
Custom 2 linked rear end
Adjustable TCA’s
Adjustable platform front struts
Adjustable top mounts
4 pot callipers front
2 pot callipers rear
Alloy Radiator
Had a skid last weekend at a sprint meeting at the Pukekohe track but the weather was absolutely crap. Huge spin on the first lap going into Ford Mountain in the rain with the Mrs in the passengers seat and as we went around I casually said we are going into the Armco backwards here but managed to gather it up somehow but have no idea how!
Not a hugely enjoyable day because of the weather but good to get out in it all the same.
