Rear trailing arms

Was going to make a set of upper rear trailing arms for my MK1...has anyone tried this? or have any pics you can post/email me?

I was going to use shock absorber eyelets welded to HT bolts (one with reverse thread) and steel tube with the nut welded to each end. Sounds simple enough, but there isnt much room for error with the angles....

Are these also called radius arms? anyone sell kits for the MK1?

Cheers
MarkMan

Mark, is your car a road or a track car? I had a set of these arms on my Mk1 Hillclimb/Sprint car and we discovered that they were binding up and causing the car to oversteer. They do a really good job of stopping axle tramp and would probably feel good on a road car.

The car handled much better without the arms at the hillclimb but broke an axle on the very next run due to ......axle tramp! This was mostly solved by fitting a set of "half rebound springs". The car would obviously benefit from a set of arms of some description but nobody seems to have come up with good conversion. If only we could put boxes in the floor!!!!

Hi All,
Am new to this site, wish I had found it 12 months ago when I first started my build, better late than never I guess. Have built a Mk1 2 door (1970) with Mk2 2 litre running gear and engine. Using it for Hillclimbs and Bitumen Sprints but looking to Log Book Improved Production and travel to Queensland Raceway and/or Morgan Park, closest circuits to home (Townsville). car has standard suspension at present but I am currentlly modifying it during our off season, so am reading all I can on what you more experienced fella's are doing. On the subject of rear axle location has any body tried Caltracs.

Hopefully, NOW, we can all see how this is not kind to suspension travel.

This would work well.

Note the voids in these Capri Mk1, factory, arm bushes.

This would allow some fore aft movement, of suspension.

Roger, Those lower trailing arms are the closest thing ive seen in any pic to the correct geometry.......thanks for the pic....
The Uppers.....forget it

Ive embarked on making my own....get the angles correct so it wont bind during suspension travell, and it looks like ill be able to do it. (after sitting under the car for half an hour with a lenght of tubing, and removing the rear twice.....)

I will post pic's once I'm done....incl whats left of the old sway bar mounts (nearly fully removed) and the new swar bar mounts that are out of the way of the upper arms!!!

Thanks for the posts everyone!
Cheers
MarkMan
