Grp4 Hub Assembly

Started to put together my front struts and have lost the diagram I had.

When using the large bearing alloy hubs (from Grp4) which way round do the bearings go? The bearing internals push out in one direction only (lets call that the front). So does the 'front' of the bearing face the strut or the wheel?

Also, the black rubber boot obviously goes in after the larger inner bearing and I assume the face shown in the pic is outermost?

One last thing, I do not have any catellated nuts with this but will source one. Is it only this nut and a large washer that holds the hub on or am I missing more bits?????

Hate asking but with 37 days until CTA to go I don't have time to experiment :(

If I understand correctly, the way you have the bearings sitting in the picture. The back of the bearing is sitting on top.
The cup presses into the the hub.

So the back of the bearings face outward of the hub... I didn't know they could be fitted the wrong way....I haven't tried...

3rd thought... I don't think you should be playing around with it, If you have asked these questions... Just my 2c...
Good luck, please let us know how you go...

Be sure to check them after you shake down the car...

there is a cage that clips over the nut which has crenellations to lock against the split pin. like a 2 piece castellated nut. I would not recommend not having any sort of locking for the front hubs.

There are 2 parts to a tapered roller bearing - the cup (outer) and the cage (inner).

The cup pressess into the hub whilst the bore of the cage takes the stub shaft.

The bearings are installed so as you tighten the nut on the stub shaft you increase the pre-load on the bearing pack.

Cheers Paul. That makes sense. The cup goes in first thumbup.gif Will have to hunt around for the locking mechanism. Im sure Grp4 Fab would have sent them but that was 2 years ago!!!!

Just pinch them off of some old struts?
