Mk1_OZ is just about to start on this journey and I am sure he would value the wealth of (conflicting?) info that we can all give.

Ah Gary how sweet of you!! :D

Having bought the watts link system from Eurospeed already I think the only area that I am yet to totally firm up is the mounting of the watts link centre bracket to the car. I see many people bolt to the boot floor (as above) but I also see companies offer products that bolt between the chassis rails.

I favour the chassis rail route as I believe (with absolutely no engineering ability to back this up) that a small hit to the side of a wheel would buckle the boot floor whereas the chassis rail could take a bit more of a hit. Conversely, a big hit may severely twist the rear chassis rails. I am not sure if Eurospeed have calculated the shear strength of their system in order for a bolt to shear before chassis damage is seen.

I have another day or twos work on fitting my rear bubble arches then I need to get cracking on mounting the watts bracket so I will read this thread with interest!!!!

That's why you bolt through the boot floor onto a bracket that you have fabricated that just happens to attached to both chassis rails (in the boot). Once you fit your fuel tank stand the bracket is out of sight too!

The bolt up thing, became a necessity in V8SC racing, due to accident damage rendering car not repairable or long term repairable.

Focusing on adjustable roll center types.

Looking at V8SC for inspiration................

I fancy the tube type

Boot adjustable, infinitely.
JB CAT car.

GSR/FPR, evolution of above.

I came across this picture in my files. I don't usually like posting other people's photos particularly when I am not quite sure who's car it is (Danny M I think) but I doubt anybody will mind.

This is a neat solution (as you would expect!). I do have some concerns regarding chassis damage in a big hit. Remember that there are plenty of earth banks, rocks and tree stumps to oversteer into when tarmac rallying. Roger has previously mentioned "bolt on" so maybe I could adapt it to have several bolt holes through the chassis rail per side to spread the load and also tie into the chassis rail better.

I am probably over-thinking like I tend to do

If you bend the chassis between the wheel arches then you have a hell of a lot more to worry about than if your watts linkage bracket is welded or bolted on.....
