Koni/Coilover setup

Hi all, just a couple of quick Q's regarding a coil-over setup. I have a set of 280lb springs coupled to Koni Yellow shocks to go into our Mk2 2ltr. I checked tonight and there is 2 turns adjustment available from full hard to full soft. The shocks are essentially new and came out of a set of struts with 220lb(ish) lowered 'full-size' king springs and were set to 1/4 turn from full hard.
Just wondering if this is a good starting point for the 280's or should we go a bit harder/softer?
Also, is there a 'best practices' way to install the tender spring? Top or bottom? My logic would have it on the bottom, but then again my logic has failed me on more than one occasion....
