Thanks for replies

Danny & Gary
I believe chassis is hitting bump stops as there are clean shiny round patches on rails directly above stops - elsewhere is dusty. To confirm marks are current, I'll smear sticky grease on bump stops for next local hillclimb.
Assuming I'm wrong, then
- could it be axle tramp? There is none at all off the line at hillclimbs
- what are symptoms of binding radius arms? wheels bouncing?

front springs are KFFL-13

Steve
Bump stops are cylindrical with domed top - same as shown in Mk2 Gregory's
There is no evidence of leafs hitting chassis, but would be bloody close towards front eye - I'll grease here to see how close

Mal
I thought of taking them out or cutting lower - but thumping is so bad out of turn 2 at Ringwood I'm worried Koni's will be doing bump stopping :!: Have re-measured at rest - 50mm from chassis to stops, with another 33mm travel before koni's bottom

Cheers Gregg

Gregg, it just sounds strange. If it is not tramping off the line it won't do it anywhere else. About 5 years ago when I first ran my car it was evil out of slow corners with the arms in. It would just lift the inside wheel and step out sideways. Fun to watch, but not helpful to competitive times. (that will get the Rally guys fired up again!!!) So we pulled the arms out for 1 run and promptly broke an axle on the start line! (after all that is why they are called "anti tramp" arms!!) So for the next run we put a spare axle in, made a very gentle start and presto! The car was transformed. For the next event we had a set of "half-rebound" springs put into the leafs to alleviate the tramp ( admittedly not completely successful)

I cut the "domed" section off my bumpstops years ago and have never had a problem with the rear bottoming and I also use Koni's

Gregg how much clearence have you got between the top of the bump stop and the rail

Danny 50mm right side, 48mm left side. A further 30-35mm approx downward travel available on Koni's

Thanks Danny & Gary,

No oversteer - I wish I had a little!
I'll determine where hitting before doing anything

Cheers, Gregg

an update at last:

bump stops were hitting chassis rails & r/h side leaf was hitting chassis rail - actually 'c' shaped clamp that retains leafs near front mounting was hitting rail
I cut more off bump stops, did a small amount of grinding, but best help in solving problem was 2nd arb I fitted to the front!

Cheers, Gregg
