TCAs will be fine.

If you are fitting a MK2 rack you will need to use the MK1 tie rods (be careful there were two types in the MK1 and only one will work) or use green tie rod ends (they have the MK2 thread but the MK1/Capri taper http://www.palmside.co.nz/images/produc ... od_end.gif ) or have your steering arms reamed to suit the MK2 tie rod ends.

Why are you fitting a MK2 rack is there a problem with the MK2 one or are you going quick rack?

The car I have is a '72 Mk1 originally a 1300 been off the road since '83. The suspension etc was all looking pretty old and tired.

I have a MK2 rack (another car I had) from a 78 2.0L that is very good cond and only requires minor work.

Thought it would be better to put that in rather than messing around with the old one.

By the way are they exactly the same?

if my memory serves me corect ? --
mk 1 rack has a finer spline for the steering knuckle , this can be overcome by changing steering column or some clever tricks on the steering knuckle - re bolt one of each ,
The mk 1 racks are a bit diferent , mostly the diference between metric & imperial threads
The important bit to look at is the bush in the left side of the tube.
as this bit usualy cops a flogging !
