Race pedal box accelerator set for Mk1

Hi there i was wondering if anyone has any tips on setting up the accelerator pedal on a race pedal box. I have a group 4 fabrications pedalbox and accelerator pedal installed in my MK1.

The way it mounts up it looks like i have to run the acelerator cable through the side of the guard to get optimal mounting point and run a return spring on the pedal. Is this normal or should the pedal return by itself?

I was also wanting to get in touch with the guy who owns the lime green mkI which was built for targa tasmania.

Thanks

Sorry I don't know what a race pedal box is but on a homologated grp 4 pedal box which is based off a twin cam, RS1600 or Mexico box the pedal goes through the firewall on the top panel between the right hand bonnet hinge and the heater cowl and you use it with the standard Weber balance linkages

This is my setup. No problems or adjustments needed after initial install a few years ago. The pedal itself doesn't have any springs for return, the mechanism bolted to the carby has enough grunt to return it. Only other addition is a pedal stop on the floor to limit travel to WOT.

Thanks guys I just installed the Grp4 fabricated pedal box and running a pinto engine.

Like the look of your throttle cables running the dual set up. Can you buy them locally in australia?

What I've had to do is run through the side inner guard my throttle cable to enter at a point suitable to get near the pivot point of the after market throttle pedal.

If anyone has a pic of the cable block mounted to the accelerator pedal on a pedal box set up and where it runs to going from there to the firewall and to the engine would be really appreciated.

Many thanks guys what a great sight for technical assistance. Ill post some pics up of my esky build tomorrow.

Cheers

Sorry, no pics of the pedal setup at hand. I originally modified it to suit a 32/36 then had to 'remodify' it back close to what it originally was when i installed the sidedrafts.

Other places are available, but I get most bits I need from here

This was before I drilled a cable hole. The block pretty much shows where it went.

I have never been happy with the setup as it resulted in a heavy pedal but also I only get about 2 inches or so of pedal travel (between the block hitting the firewall/scuttle panel and the pedal touching the floor) . For a competition car I suppose the lack of movement is not really an issue. Doesn't give much scope to get the heel & toe position right.

Hi mate

Where yours is now is where
where i mounted mine and it was actually heavier than my clutch pedal no jokes.

Torsten then told me to mount it differently so i moved it onto the round bar which run down to the pivot point about 1 inch above pivot and wala light pedal but then just had to run a spring inside the car to return it to level with the brake pedal.

I'd recommend it feels really nice and light now. i did run the cable through the side inner guard around the top of the shock tower and through the firewall.
