Stillwell Escort 1972
While i agree with you that the current Stillwell Escort is a far cry from what was run in the day (a fair bit of modern technology and thinking has obviously been applied) the car in the picture is not the Stillwell RS1600.
Stillwell's ran two Escorts in the red/yellow scheme - a Twin Cam as in the photo you have posted and a big wing BDA powered "RS1600".
Michael usually drove the Twin Cam in production touring while Graham Ritter usually drove the RS1600 in improved production.
If you have a look at you will find a few pics there of the other car that is being represented today. I didn't copy and paste the pics here as they are all subject to copyright.
Thanks for your response Glenn. I am an OLD FART at 57 years old...........I obviously can't tell your vintage. Were you around in the late 60's early 70's era?
The Escort shown ran as a Sports Sedan in 1972. It would not have run in Production with those 'guards flared like that.
I have opened a can of worms about these cars:- ie Stillwell Escorts, Globe Escorts, Monterrosso cars.
I saw them all race at Mallala and AIR and have photos and programs, plus Auto Actions, Race Car News, Chequered Flags, Australian AutoSportsman and many race programs of the time.
As an ex Appendix J Eligibility person back in it's formative years, I am concerned that facts are going to be distorted if care is not taken to ensure "correct" specifications of historically significant cars - many of which have been butchered and misrepresented over the years.
Although a few publications have skimmed the subject, it would be terrific to see documentation of the Escort's motorsport activities in Australia - through Production, Improved Production, Sports Sedans, Group C - as Twin Cams, RS1600, GT1600, GT1300, RS2000 and RS1800 forms. I would be most happy to assist.

Well guess i am nearly, but not quite an old fart at 39 - so while i was around briefly in the late sixties (born in 69) i didn't see any of these cars in action.
Like yourself though i have collected a rather large library of books and magazines and spent quite a few hours conversing with many of the people involved with the cars in the era. A couple of years ago i had a look at the Stillwell Escort during its build and also got to see what is left of the Globe Escort.
Maybe the car ran in improved production for 1972 and the other car (with the big wings and BDA) ran as a sports sedan? I had heard a few years ago that one of the Stillwell cars was in Adelaide somewhere?
As for the book thing i totally agree. It is something that i started doing about two years ago - writing a book to document as much of the Escort competition history between 1968 and 1984 in Australia. It is a big task so will be a long term project for me - just doing the research and tracking down old drivers and mechanics is a job in itself.
Back to the Stillwell car, from what i understand (which isn't much) the Biante Series which the car runs in has a lot more freedoms than Historic Touring Cars Nc. I know of a couple more cars that are currently being built to run in this series - obviously to take advantage of those freedoms.

May i join in, I'm in the old fart club as well at 47.... years of age, and not that good on the computer either.
I may be able to help out with the location of the Ex Adelaide one, you'll find it now in Darwin. I bought it "well i hope i did buy the right one" two years ago from a bloke in Tassie who did get it from Adeliade. The History is the same anyway???.
It went hill climbing for a while, then sat in a shed for a few years, until it was sold and went to Tassie.
If its the same one its currently getting a ground up restro.
