Whats wrong with a piece of 25x4mm mild steel bolted either side of the tunnel with 8mm bolts to stop the shaft from dropping down as all you're trying to do is stop the car from using it as a pole vault as that is what most of hte Improved production guys are doing and mine has had that for 15 years

thanks guys,
Danny, are you running a 1 piece tailshaft? where roughly did you mount it?
I'm still running with the standard 2 piece tailshaft, does this mean that I need two of them?
also what is the most common failure point in tailshafts? the universals?
thanks again

Yes it's a 3" chro-moly shaft with cutstom yokes and rather large uni's but the rear will probably get converted over to a CV joint later on
The strap is just past the front uni probably about 50mm down the tube as all it's there to do is stop the shaft falling down and pole vaulting the back of the car
As far as failures go you wont see many with a 1 piece shaft if you life the uni's and get it balanced when you change them

Danny,
Have you ever seen a prop shaft come up through the floor as it spins wildly after the rear lets go? Shrapnel everywhere that is why the the loop encircles the prop shaft. Rare but possible! Best to try and prevent both senarios

Probably the best example of it was caught on national television being the cleland/brock commodre during the 93 Bathurst ( I think) while clelland performing an in car interview the camera caught the event, and I have seen it on a racing sprite at winton, which have a 4 sided tunnel, no secondary tailshaft loop and it made a huge mess to all four sides.
Cheers.
