RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

Don't think it is a bent fork as the clutch pedal is still easy enough to move...I believe it is the clutch cable that is the problem as while the car is sitting, turned off, as I move the gearstick with the clutch in or out it still sounds like it hasn't fully disengaged...

The only thing is, the extractors come out on the passenger side of the motor....is this still close enough to the cable to cause problems??

How much would a new cable be fitted? I assume I would need a rather expensive heat-proof one?

Ooops, you have a crossflow, I was thinking SOHC DUH. Better ask if your car is RHD

Extractors/heat/cable isn't the problem when they are on opposite sides of the car.

Have you checked the cable adjustment ?

Ok I think I just need to go to a mechanic and find out what is happening...

I was sitting before just feeling the gears and they make more noise than they probably should so I am pretty sure it something with the setting of the cable...maybe if I got a new clutch fitted it stretched the cable causing it to not fully disengage? The cable does run very close to the block and sump though so I will get it checked out in the next few days.

Would it definitely be the clutch making the gearbox tougher to move? Or could there be some other causes that I should also check?

(UPDATE) Just for your information...the reason for the gears being hard was that the engine mount had gone and the whole setup had tilted slightly, putting the strain on the gears making it harder to move..It is all being fixed now along with some new bushes and steering mounts...
