Hi All

I'm looking at changing my standard 4 slot gearbox to a 5 speed conversion.
Any recommendations on which to go to?
A Celica 5 speed maybe ? The car is a Mk1 2 door (1600) at the moment and used mainly for street and the odd sprints.

Sierra 5 speed is bolt-in, same clutch, bellhousing and tailshaft. if yours is a manual shell you need to remove the existing gearbox mounts to the tunnel. use an automatic crossmember bolted to the floor and lower the engine mounts to bring the engine angle back to 4 degrees.

With a type 9 you also need to move the gear lever hole rearwards about 100mm. Don’t cut out a massive section and mirror as some have done just cut the gear lever boot gaiter off weld the old hole up and cut a new hole and weld the gaiter back on. The hardest thing in the whole process is drilling out the spot weld on the old gearbox mounts

I got one from Burton's as I was getting a bunch of other stuff at the same time.



CAE in Victoria do one as well.

The Castlemaine starter has more torque and is much cheaper than the pommie units
