Bending Gear Lever

Hi Guys,
I have just installed a race seat in my MK2 and now (due to a permanent injury to my left arm) the gear lever is not in a comfortable place for quick gear changes when I am harnessed in. I am building a club level track car.
Is it possible to just bend the lever towards me and thus make it 2-4 inches closer? If so, how would you do it?
Are there any other options?
Thanks for your help.
Matt

Could you use the thread the gear knob winds on, and screw a dog leg extension towards you?

Good idea Max,
Where would you get one from or would it be custom made?
Cheers
Matt

I was wondering about this too. Had a look around the web but couldn't see much Escort related.
I did see this one for a VW van though.
I had a think about getting something made, even whipped up a quick sketch.

Looks great Peter,
I wonder what size threads the VW extender dealie has?
I have a mate who is a fitter and turner. I wonder if I can get him to do some up.
Can you make them too?
Cheers,
Matt

Yeah, no idea on the VW threads sorry.
And no way, my skills are lucky to extend past changing a tyre
If I find anyone to make one I'll let you know.

Had a friend just heat it up with an oxy and then bend it closer.
Problem solved.
Thanks,
Matt
