T9 Concentric Slave Release Bearing
Believe it or not I am trying not to ask questions but this one has me stumped....
I bought a hydraulic clutch setup from Eurospeed and have just fitted it to the T9. I realised that I have lost the original release bearing from the old 4 speed box so dont have one. But which one to buy? Even Eurospeed didn't know when I spoke to them!!!!
I measured from the block face to the clutch fingers is 85mm and from the bellhousing face to the concentric slave cylinder is 94mm. That's only a 9mm gap!!!??
I will most likely buy this one from Burtons but really it's a guess...
With only days to go before scrutineering I cannot afford the time to try several different parts. Somebody on here must have gone down this route before?
yep i used to have dreams of using hyd clutch weigh up all the pros & cons ? use cable setup with a reinforced fork & heat sheilded cable far more reliable than hyd setup
Mine is similar although not identical. Will contact Burton and change the part to the one you suggest. Would be nice if there was a more local supplier! Many thanks
Well blow me down. The SAAB one I3010-59808 looks identical to the Eurospeed one (surprised they didn't tell me that). Will also buy a SAAB bearing to try.
Yes I rang Eurospeed and spoke to Mark. Am trying to ring the SAAB dealer now and assume that the release bearing that goes with that slave is the right fit....
Hi all, I have used many of the different Saab A/M concentric units in my Escort conversions and the release bearing they all used was a SKF part number VKC 2218 which is easily bought all over the world. No need to go to the middle-men, go straight to SKF for the best deal.
Too late. Bought a SAAB one from...SAAB and also bought one from Burtons which at a much inflated price is the same as the SAAB one. At least I have a spare!!! Thanks for the part number though
I only bought a new release bearing from Burtons which I did not use.
I originally bought the concentric clutch kit from Eurospeed (2 years ago!) which had the replacement gearbox 'nose', SAAB concentric clutch slave, some pipes, spring and release bearing. When we originally fitted these items up all appeared to work well but after only a handfull of test clutch pedal presses the slave piston popped out of the housing. This happened several times (andultimately destroyed one of the o-ring seals) until we measured and discovered we needed a 10mm (???) spacer between the 'nose' and the slave. Everything is fine now (well it got me through one event without issue).
The boys measured from the bearbox face to the end of the bellhousing, from the block face to the clutch fingers and worked out what spacer size was needed to get the release bearing to sit almost on the fingers. They also measured the fingers depression between relaxed and straight fingers to determine the max clutch throw that should be used.
As we had destroyed one of the o-rings in the slave before the event and had to use any old o-ring that we could get to fit (we ended up with one at 41.5 x 4mm which fitted but shaved off some of the seal when inserted) I bought a replacement aftermarket SAAB slave that was fitted after the first day of competition. I will source a spare correct o-ring for the original slave so that I have a spare. It seems however that SAAB do not treat them as a repairable item and do not list any repair kits.
We also left out the thick spring/rubber boot that sits over the slave and presses against the release bearing. We couldn't work out how to fit the gearbox whilst holding that assembly in place!! Didn't seem to effect anything but I am sure it is there for a reason...
