anyone here have problems with the metal seal at the end of the extension housing on a 4sp box?

i can push mine in by hand, but changing gears pushes it out. the lip faces outwards right?

any suggestions?

Yeah the lip faces outwards but i have come across some incorrect seals that dont fit in tight enough which sounds like the problem you describe.

I was fortunate to still have the original seal i removed so the bearing shop could measure it up.

The first one i bought was a KELRAY brand and it was totally wrong although the part number was correct.

Unfortunately i dont have the seal number written down.
