RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

Just starting to look into exhaust systems and having a relative in the industry I think making my own system might prove to be a super cheap option. Was thinking of a 2.5" stainless steel system with a 16" race bullet and a 14" muffler.

Can my existing Lincoln Electric 180 MIG welder weld stainless steel? What would I need to change for success (gas, weld wire etc )???

Has anybody had experience with taking pipe from home to an exhaust shop to get it bent to the correct shapes? Will they do it are just tell you to GF'd?

Tig would be better.
but the mig will do fine with stainless steel wire and argon lite

i use argoshield lite for everything. is that ok for stainless with the correct wire??

Im not too sure about the lite, I cant remember what was used but the SS changed color a lot.

when you finish on yours you can start on mine

Just buy normal steel mandrel bent pieces then get the system ceramic coated when you've finished.

OK, on a slight wank value, doesnt stainless steel give a much better exhaust note or is that urban myth?????

urban myth !!

i can get the bits at close to zero cost but straight pipe only. will need to consider cost of buying prebent pipe vs straight but then paying for bending.

any other comments on the sound stainless steel makes???????? Experiences?

OK might consider mild steel which will cost me even less
