Drivetrain angle
Hi guys, I was told that the engine should be leaning back at an angle of 4 degrees. I assume that is using something like the front chassis rail as the 0 degree reference? How crucial is it that the engine is at 4 degrees? What should the face of the diff flange be, 4 degrees?
4 degrees (or thereabouts) will put the carby/manifold join plane on the original inlet manifold flat. I'm not sure about a 2-piece tailshaft, but for a single piece the inlet and output driveshaft angles should be as close to the same as possible. Some say to allow for a bit of axle wind-up during acceleration, probably more important for a racecar. Maximum uni joint angle should be 3 degrees
when I first put put the 5 speed in my mk1 the rear of the gearbox was too low and I had horrible vibration problems. Dropped the front of the engine down (made up some new engine mounts) and the problem is gone
And yes, I'm pretty sure the top of the chassis rails should be level
