CAMS Logbook Issue

Trying to get my car logbooked under the CAMS 2011 ROPS grandfather scheme. Easy enough if you can find the chassis number on the shell but mine has been partly covered, partly replaced and partly ground down. All in all I don't have a readable number! CAMS insist they get a number and have indicated that I can just stamp my own :shock: :shock: SA Dept of Transport tell me I cannot. CAMS now tell me there can be one number for them and a totally separate number for the government......

My compliance plate shows;

PREFIX BODY: CK44KU
SER No: 7766 O
SIDO No: 362715
MODEL: 11016

If I understand correctly the original chassis number stamped on the strut top should therefore have been CK44KU7766O ??????

If so I will give this number to CAMS.

Bump....

Still thinking about the chassis number. The SA Department of Silly Walks tells me that if I cannot find the chassis number then I will have to fully complete the car (including paint) then take it down to them for an inspection at which time they will happily destroy my paint by stamping a new number in the shell!!! They will under no circumstances look at an incomplete shell. Bloody red tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, anybody know exactly how the Mk1 Escort (1970) chassis number was formed? Is it as I have above or does it include the original factory engine number too (long gone I'm affraid :sad:)

If I can establish what the original number was then stuff 'em, I will buy a set of stamps and do it myself BEFORE paint.

I can't reply for certain as mine is a 3/75 mk1 with 2 compliance plates, but I think the number you should have stamped on the inner guard is CK44KU7766O. SIDO is a reference to a dealer order and the model is just the code for the chassis type so DOT have no need to know these.

Ford matched engine and chassis numbers so your original engine would be stamped the same

My plate and chassis stamp didn't match - but since I got CAMS Rally Rego (WA) they didn't seem to care too much. Since the chassis number didn't come up in their search I had to sign a stat dec that (to the best of my knowledge) the car wasn't stolen or a previous write-off.

I say stamp the above and stop worrying :smile:
