Paint Removal - Dipping

Is there a dipping/e-coating service available in Adelaide? My searches have found nothing so far.

I suppose to transport interstate would just add another ~$1K onto the already high cost

the areas in question now have plenty of KURUST on them. I got off as much rust as I could although just could not get it all off due to space. Hopefully the KURUST has converted what is left and it wont come back. Having said that I may try to sand off the KURUST once more then retreat to hopefully get a little bit more cancer.

The inside floor pans do seem to have a dusty brown/rust tinge. I have not yet investigated whether this is rust coming through or whether it is just dust from when the cage was installed. Lance knew how paranoid I was about getting it wet so I am sure he did not leave it outside (same cannot be said for my rear spit pivot that he did leave outside  )

EDIT: OK, the treads have grown back on my finger tips sufficiently that I just went to the shed and had a quick sand of the floor. All is good. Just brown dust and no rust...phewww

Second that to Minus Paint.

Have used him several times for both car and motorcycle stuff - top bloke and very helpful.

Advantage is that his paint removal process will dissolve large lumps of bog as well. He also offers a rust removal process.

His opening hours can be odd - he closes mid afternoon especially in the summer months, and is not always open on a Saturday - suggest you call him first to arrange a time.

Cheers

MinusPaint - depaint/derust/etch prime

$130 to $160 per average gaurd
up to 3 weeks!

half the price of a repro gaurd!!!!!!!

I am discovering just how painful it is removing all the grim, paint and rust from within all the nooks and crannies on teh back of a Mk1 gaurd. Almost impossible me thinking unless I can find a miracle tool or maybe just give up and paint POR15 over it :(

Sounds good but you still got a 40 year old piece of skinny metal dressed up.

true rob. 3-4 days work for one guard vs the cost of a new one.......Im going new now!!!!

Seeing as you dont have any for a few weeks and I need one urgent I feel annoyed for not deciding on getting one before you ran out.

I just bought some POR15 from the net. I think I will look at coating the areas that are prone to rust with a nice coat of it to stop the need for new panels in the future. Maybe the top behind the light surround and down low around the A piller area. I have only read a couple of bad posts regarding POR15 and I reakon they might only be due to not following the destructions....

If anybody has a new passenger side standard panel I would be happy to 'borrow' and replace with the one I just ordered from Rob. :D :D :D

This is my driver's side wing-I stopped depainting when I remembered I was fitting bubbles and would be cutting most of the metal out. Generally in very good condition except for the usual rust on the top front. I have cut that out and started to let in fresh metal. Then my trusty new can of POR15 will cover all that area so hopefully it will never return.

Providing Rob tells me the new panels will be arriving very soon or somebody 'lends' me one until they do I will not have to do this to the passenger side....
