RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

I have a Raceline steel flywheel for my Zetec and one of the 3 locating dowels for the clutch cover has broken flush with the flywheel face.

It does not effect the clutch fitment etc but will there be a problem with flywheel / clutch assembly imbalance?

Do I get it removed and replaced?

Help appreciated.

The bolt holes are tooo big to allow accurate alignment

nip the bolts up & see how you go ? vibration / loud noises ?? well
just remember the..clutch/flywheel asembly should be fitted to the crank with the front pulley
to be static or dynamicly balanced together
if ? you want to rev it fairly hard without bad loud noises

I'd change is now while it's out and an easy fix. It might be fine but if not it's a big hassle to fix it when it's in the car. Any competant machine shop should be able to change it for not a lot of $$$.

The flywheel is sitting on my bench anyhow so it's not difficult to get it done.

I had a flywheel that had no dowels in it and it stuffed a new HD pressure plate in 2000km due to imbalance.

You couldnt feel any abnormal vibration either. It just rattled the the big circlip that holds the diaphragm into the clutch cover loose.

I'd fix it now and save the hassle later.
