RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

It looks like I'll have to have the solenoid replaced again within 18 months. I have a new battery, new fuses and the RS2000 wont start on the key. But if I cross the terminals, it will start. All wiring looks good as well.
Is there any reason why the solenoid has clagged it?

I was told I was running too much static advance which was killing my standard starters!

Solenoid failure is usually the result of 2lt engine vibrations.

Anything that undoes to the front of the engine, likes to undo given half a chance.

The screws, holding the solenoid end cap, loosen off, then the armature wires soldered inside the cap fracture and it stops working.

Tried and tested solution is, resolder armature wires, locktite screws, then fill in over screw heads with silicon.

thanks John, i sort this out soon and do what you have suggested..I have noticed an engine mount had started to split so your theory might just be it!

further to this problem...its still happeneing..
something is draining the battery, I still cant start the RS2000 on the key. Could someone tell me which wire is supposed to go where on the solenoid...unfortunaley I have 2 BLACK wires from the loom to the solenoid.

Any colour stripes on those black wires ?

Failing that, try both ways, one way will work, the other wont.

yup Ill try it tomorrow. Also where can I get an ignition barrel to main loom connector? well its a small loom itself.
