Hi Guys,

I have b een out in the MK II and there is a noise coming from the back end.

I am unsure whether it's the diff or the wheel bearings.

I have acertained it's not the gearbox as I have dropped in into neutral when coasting and the oise remains.

Is there any way you can diagnose whether it's the diff or the wheel bearings without going nuts and pulling everything apart?

Many thanks,

Matt

Howl = diff
Rumble = Wheel bearings

...usually anyway. Jack up the rear and spin the wheels by hand, it usually pretty clear if if bearings are gone.

could be pinion or side carrier brgs in the diff
not easy to ascertain unless you pull diff out & strip down & check
its not a big job to pull the diff out , it can be done in 20 mins
plenty ppl here to help with advice
