Where are you guys fitting oil coolers?
especially if your running a turbo with intercooler et al.

All photos welcome.

Cheers

Have you considered oil to water.

no I haven't as I have all the parts brand new...what advantage oil to water cooler in terms of packaging.

Anyone care to advise where and how they mounted their coolers.

JP

Mine's behind the cross member on the cool side of the engine bay. It's just higher than the cross member to ensure it's protected from kerbs. Works perfectly although may not get as much air as if it was mounted at the front of the car. Good luck.

The spigot is on the suction side of the water pump, so if you hook it up as described it will be sucking hot water from the head, through the 'cooler' and back into the motor.

That is how the YB's are configured from the factory.

One thing you have to do if you're going to have a cooler is monitor oil temps as my car runs an oil to water heat exchanger mounted into the bottom tank of the radiator and with an 86 degree t/stat it runs at 83-84 degrees water temp and the oil runs at 62-65 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No this may not be the case if you're running a wet sump as you have a large heater on top of you oil

Hi Danny,

Is that the case even when racing as compared to hill climbing?

The key difference in this case is that Justin is running a turbo. I assume he'll package the intercooler in front of the radiator, or at least a portion of it, reducing it's effectiveness. Then the turbo is also oil cooled which heats the oil, some oil temperatures exiting the turbo are frightening.

Depending on the turbo he chooses it may also be water cooled so again the exit temps would be high and is additional heat the water cooling system has to deal with.

I'm not sure I'd introduce another source of heat, in this case oil temperature, for the water cooling system to deal with.

Can't disagree with measuring the oil temp!

further to all this,
I'm thinking a slimline 500x100x50 oil cooler mounted above the radiator behind the intercooler and between the intercooler outlets. the one im thinking of has inlet and outlet on the passenger side so aligns with the remote filter and engine outlet nicely
thoughts? Of course I will need to cut the slam panel further.

Seems plausible.
