Cossie operating temps.. is there cause for concern ?

Hi,

After questioning the accuracy of my Mk2 RS water temp gauge I decided to fit a thermo switch that comes on at 95 deg C and off at 90 deg C with a warning light on it.. and it appears that at about 1/3 on the gauge the light is coming on.

I have a thermo switch for the two small fans that i have that comes on at 90 deg C and off at 85 deg C

I have an 82 Deg C thermostat, new water pump and new lj torana three core radiator and two small 8inch fans (unfortunately that was as big as i could go with the available space !)

Due to the gauge not being accurate I am not sure of how hot it is getting when i am driving it, but i have taken it out twice down the highway for about ten minutes to a nice test road I have found and i give it a bit of a strap up and down the road, cruise home at 80km/h ish and both times when i get out to put up the garage door i hear the fans trip in and the second time the 95 deg light came on.. i let the car idle for a few mins and it cooled down enough for the light and then the fans to switch off..

Do you guys think I should be worried.. I will buy a gauge in the near future.. although, again who knows how accruate the autometer gauges that i have will be ?

Also i have a 75mm thick intercooler directly infront of the radiator, could this be a heat soak problem when the car is stationary ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Damion.
