RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

As part of the longest engine rebuild of all time I decided to fit an electric fan to my Mk2 rally car and hopefully gain back a few of the kilowatts that will have been lost by dropping the compression ratio substantially.

After checking the local stuff I couldn't find anything that I was totally happy with. So after searching a little further afield I came up with this:




A Kenlowe fan from the UK, seems to be very well made and I must say I am very happy with it on first inspection.

At first I was not keen to mount it through the alloy radiator in the common fashion but as the weight of the fan will be sitting on the bottom tank of the radiator I'm thinking I may just do it this way.

I would value any thoughts or experiences that you guys may have though.

I retro fitted an A/C system to my BMW and mounted a Pacet through the condensor with the mount kit provided.

All worked well, until after 18 months of South Australia's excellent smooth high quality roads the fan started rubbing against the fins over bumps, unfortunately as it is pretty quiet inside I didn't notice until the air stopped working as it had worn through and I had to fix it.

I was not impressed, so made some brackets for it to go with the new condensor.

If they can move around that much on SA's roads it's gonna be worse on a rally car, I wouldn't trust it.
