Fuel economy

Hey folks,
Trying to get my head around fuel economy for Targa. I have heard people suggest 2Km per Litre competitive and 5km per Litre on transport, but these are just generic figures that aren't very vehicle specific and seem to be used by turbo cars too.
Soo, does anyone who has rallied escorts (in particular tarmac).... MK1Oz???? with a race pinto on twin webbers have any figures that would help? I know every car is different but at least another pinto powered escort is closer than some figures for some other random thing with a turbo and 4wd.
Cheers,
Llewellyn

Ours (2 liter Pinto, 220 bhp, twin 48's) was similar to the figures you suggest.

Thanks mate, it seems to be a pretty average set of figures. Would hate to think what a big 8 would use.
If anyone else has experience too that would be great.
Cheers.

My Group C car with a Pinto on 48's with about 170hp gets around 3km per litre.

Great, I think i'm going to go with 2 and 6. Seems to be a good average based on what i've heard here and a few other places.
Thanks again folks.

Don't know how I missed this thread!
The figures quoted above seem very high.
For my 2L twin 45 DCOE Pinto tarmac rally calculations I use 13L/100 and 42L/100 (7.7 & 2.4km/L) but these have only ever been guesses. I keep a spreadsheet of calculated consumption then compare that to actual and update each year.
Next time I drive the car on the road for repairs i will try to measure the exact transport consumption which will then make calculating the stage consumption easier.
Wayovermyhead, did you ever work out exact figures?

G'day Glen,
Last couple of events ive done we used 2 and 6 k's per litre and it seemed pretty accurate, but still on the safe side. At Tassie this year the engine was a little different and finally had a 5spd in it. And it was clear that our economy was MUCH better but we didn't work it out, was just too hectic this time. But I wouldn't be surprised if our transport economy was closer to 9! The carbs have been tuned to perfection though and the engine is a lot more efficient.

I decided to take a semi-accurate measurement of the fuel I used when running in the engine today. I did 79km (mostly hilly but not pushing) and used 11.7 litres. This equates to 14.8L/100km (or 6.75km/L).
The broken in engine should use marginally less due to loosening up but then I may drive it harder between stages. 15L/100 will do and is what I have been using anyway!
