More mounting points are definitely required as the firewall flexes a lot.
I actually used a MK2 Pedal box as it already has the 4 bolts through the firewall and then added 2 more brackets (2 bolts through each) to the top that then go through the the scuttle(?) and double up as the mounts for the reservior bracket.

My initial thought was to remove the existing square mounting plate that is spotted on the firewall (engine bay side) and replace it with a larger plate. Your method effectively mounts the pedal box to a different plane which is good.
