Pedal Box

I've had enough, going pedal box.

mk2 pedal box from rally design, F167.50 with m/c and adjuster.

where to get the resevoir's in aus and how much?

What are these like on the pedal feel, or should a remote booster be used?

Grant,

Got mine from eastern raceparts.

Don't remember exact price, but cheaper than revolution.

Palmside do the reservoirs and pedal boxes, very happy with the quality of the box I got from them.

Got these from Independent brake suplier = IBS

Grant,

I have bias adjustable pedal boxes in both my Group C cars, and one runs a VH44 remote booster and one doesn't. Both run AP 4 spots and discs at the front with drums at the back.

Firstly a pedal box will give you a good, hard solid feel, unlike the crappy box of rods etc you get from the factory. When using the car in competition it makes it much easier to pick that point of maximum braking effort while just not quite locking the wheel.

Whether or not you run a remote booster I feel is just personal preference. From my experience both cars will stop on a dime, it's just the amount of pedal pressure you need to apply to make it happen. The booster itself doesn't make the car stop any better. I like the one with the booster, only because I find it easier to heel & toe if I don't have to excert as much pedal pressure on the brake. Makes me more at ease when driving.

For my part, go with the pedal box on its own, see how it feels and if need be add a booster later.

thanks guys,

what is the cheapest prices people have found for pedal boxes ? sorry John was that for the pedal box or resevoirs?

rally design works out around $390 for the box with shipping i'd guess around $450 sounds allright.
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/ad ... f05b30ba05

bottles from palmside roughly $40 each with postage so $100ish landed.

Nev, yeah was thinking that, if i dont like it throw in the booster later.
have redone all the bushes in the std rod bracket, still no picnic.

About to bolt rx7/pug combo on the front, so want a decent pedal, plus some spare room under the bonnet

As for resevoirs, i guess anything will do really, just has to hold fluid ( now where did i put those juice bottles)
Should be able to find one from another car, $40 for a little plastic bottle seems a bit rich.
Feel free to laugh but what about those small gravity gun bottles? they look about the same size, can cope with paint/thinners etc so should be able to handle brake fluid.

I got reservoirs from Eastern Raceparts.

Manufactured my pedal box from scratch as I wasn't happy with what was available.

Should be duty free, being under $1000.

Twin outlet ok provided it is partitioned to prevent all fluid being lost if one circuit fails.

Grant, i believe it cost me around $200 for the bits to construct my own. I guess it depends on your skills or what favours you can call from!

This guy has them as cheap as Ive seen. I bought2, so did JSA.

They are not genuine, girling, but copies. Good enough.

Most are selling willwoods, now. Same as though.

He also has ADJ TCAs, at pretty much best price Ive seen, too.

Brake Booster??

PostPosted: Sat Oct 21, 2006 10:22 am
by Rod Jacome
Guys,

I have absolutely had it with the brake booster contraption on the Escorts. Costs me an arm and both legs to get the master cylinder and booster reconditioned. All up its just over 500 bucks. It would be cheaper to go pedal box. However its not a racing car, its a cruiser i.e a restoration. I have seen pics of Escorts with the master cylinder bolted directly onto the firewall with NO booster. Can anyone shed some light on this as to
1. Would the pedal feel be the same? (Although mine currently is hard spongy and non effective)
2. WOuld it be street legal in NSW?
3. Where can i find one and how much?

If anyone can put this miserable cloud over my head to rest, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
