Drivers door pillar is shot and needs replacing, both the outer skin and inner where the hinges attach. Is there after market replacement for these or do I need to find a shell and cut one out ?

Cheers, Craig.

the outside skin is available and I have never seen an inner frame that far gone once the crusty skin is removed...Now I think about it Mk1oz may have had to replace his hinges too?

get some photos up

Outers only for me. The inners ones do look very rough at first glance but being so thick the surface rust can generally be removed leaving a usable inner.

Panels available from SmackaPerformance or direct import from UK suppliers.

Thanks, yeah I might be jumping the gun here a bit, had another look at it and should be able to save the inner. When you get a couple of panel beaters look at the car and shake their head quoting stupid numbers you start looking at every bit of rust as terminal.

SMCKA is getting the outers in a few weeks, will grab a couple of them.

Cheers

THE ADVANTAGE MOST OF US HAVE HERE OVER YOUR AVERAGE JOE PANEL BEATER OR EVEN RESTORER IS WE HAVE SEEN AT LEAST MANY LOCAL AND UK CARS RESURRECTED (oh @#$% caps lock...why didn't I learn to touch type). we know what panels are available and even how they are put together. the local panelmen probably have done very few escorts as they are a fringe dwellers fanboi car! (yes I said it) As such the quotes you are getting will be covering the big unknowns or based on repairs needed on the local cars...and if my old EB falcon was anything to go on it has structural rust int he Sills at 10 years, my AU has it across the turret, and along the heater plenum and across the front crossmember. Id hate to get a quote to repair it given the complexity of the cars today vs our little twisty escorts.

Don't really know why I typed all that just thinking out loud...

What really threw me was the "it is @ two and a half weeks work" and in the next breath "you are looking at @ $40k".

i'm no panel beater but do have half a brain. Since found a guy who will help me on Saturdays, 20 years body experience in the UK and did a Mexico last year, looks like I will get away with a quarter of that quote plus panels. May take 6 months or so but in no hurry (unless you ask the mrs who doesnt get the 'wreck' in the garage).

Cheers
