Speed Restored • View topic - Which engine?
Yes, it's found here in GLE spec 740,940 volvos. Rated around 153hp stock. quite a few things in its favour, already RWD, has rear sump bowl, available in 2.3 standard with the option of 2.5lts (penta crank), while the head can be ported to flow some half decent numbers. eg @28" 2mm 74cfm 4mm 146cfm 6mm 213cfm 8mm 265cfm 10mm 306cfm 12mm 332cfm 14mm 348cfm 16mm 356cfm 18mm 362cfm
Combined with the b230 turbo bottom end, it makes for a pretty impressive combination...
standard bottom end, big port, over sized valves, RL32 cam, port matched manifolds, pacemaker big bore cermaric coated headers, twin 45's. After a few teething issues got it fired up Saturday and purrs nicely on the 45's but stil has a nasty fla spot around 2500rpm.
I still need to dial in the cam and it's only running about 7 degrees ignition advance
My bastard mate got a stacked focus with duratec complete for $450... Cheapest duratec I have found so far is $1400 (bare)
I saw that on Pickles and thought it would be a good buy for someone.
I'll send you a PM as I bought a 2008 one here with 25000km hit LH front for the wife. I've also got a 2007 stat right off for most parts but there's a couple of bit's I might be interested in.
You won't believe how easily they come apart. 15yrs ago when I was doing Lasers I thought they were easy but it's not hard to see where the years of engineering have gone in the way they are made and assembled.
The engine is now out and safely in the shed - i'll start a build thread shortly in the duratec section
So do I dry sump it - or wet sump with lowered steering rack? Roger Carroll has a nice dry sump but nobody seems to do the twin scavenge pump to suit... Which water rail kit? Which bellhousing? - they seem to do a short and long version for the T9? What alternator - and which side? What oil filter setup? Which ECU?
Maybe the cossie lump would have been an easier option afterall
The compromised geometry doesn't get balanced out by the gain from the dry sump and most of the dry sumps set ups for them are ordinary anyway and anyway a 2lt Duratec isn;t going to make as much grunt as a good YB
The car will be used for rally sprint/hillclimb type events.
I don't want to go the lower steering rack idea so a dry sump will probably be the only option, since given the height of the engine a wet sump wouldn't clear the standard steering rack. I really don't want to get into the YB vs duratec arguements as both are great engines with a lot of potential - but it will cost a lot of $$$ to release that potential in both cases.
I now have the eurospeed catelgue, Roger Carrols standard email pitch, Racelines, Pace, Titan sump/pump specs, and retro-fords numerous options. Just need to win lotto now...
Peterson Finally made my dry-sump 2stage scavenge pump all up with spline drive and pump pulley plus postage through performance wholesale it cost 1086 bucker roo's 8), the pump alone cost $718. So all up not a bad deal really, better than buying a barnes pump at $1100 alone. Will post pics later (just got back from MotoGP). I got it with 1.4in rotors.
Rogers dry-sump works. Im having a few difficulties with that part of it, I bought my pump with left side fitting where roger fits his to the right. I didnt like it as fitting to the right the piping takes on a few twists, where fitting to the left opens it up and gets the pipes away from the steering rack. However I have to move my alternator.
Danny what power are you making at the wheels? I know its posted in here somewhere but I forget where. When we spoke on the phone about the rims you said you checked out an 06 Duratec with the low port design, 07 onwards have the higher ports being fitted with the 2.3lt heads.
