Hello

I'm aiming for a 180bhp escort mk2.

These days, lots of engine choices are available. Some of which i'm trying to decide between are :

Good Old Pinto +- 120bhp
Zetec +- 136bhp
Duratec +- ? dont know this one, so leave it as it iss
RS 2000 (Escort mk5) - 150bhp

What would be your choice and why ?

I'm struggling between the Pinto and the Zetec. Pinto is easy fitment, lots of parts, higher tuning costs. Zetec is (i guess) lower tuning costs, good fuel economy, higher conversion costs.

16 valve's the way to go. I think duratec over zetec due to option of greater capacity.

You don't consider YB an option ?

YB is not really an option to be honest, for some reason i dont like the word "cosworth" . Nah this would be out of budget range i suppose

That newer engine i dont know.

Car is meant to be a weekend ride, for fun. And also i want to visit the track from time to time

i'm not a big fan of the SR20 for the simple fact that it has rocker arms in a very similar setup to the pinto.
rocker arms and high RPM is not good.

zetec or CA18 would be my pick. (direct acting bucket follower)
infact i have a zetec on a stand under the house that will oneday find its way into my escort.
sure you are limmited on valce lift but you dont really need anymore then about .410/.420thou
