Ford Racing CNC Zetec head
We know that the zetec is not in the same league as the Duratec / YB etc, but comparing apples with apples, how does this head stack up to the std one ?? Is there a better off the shelf head for this price ? Massive do ported std heads, details below $1537 + $200 core charge in US dollars, close to double the price
ZETEC POWER UNLEASHED!
Massive has created the worlds TOP FLOWING ZETEC CYLINDER HEAD.
5 Axis CNC machined for the best in consistency and flow! In our quest for power superiority, an OE head was flow tested on a Superflow SF-600 flow bench at 28” of water to determine base line flow numbers. After the initial flow test the heads are ported by hand to develop a working port shape and volume. The head is then reflowed after hand porting to verify the increase in flow. The heads are then reverse engineered using 5-axis digitizing to acquire the port shape of the finished port. This makes for the greatest possible flow capacity and consistency. Heads begin as production cores which are fully disassembled and washed. The heads are then glass bead blasted clean to remove any rust or scale. They are then CNC machined using 5-axis simultaneous machining. All ports and chambers are machined then hand finished to blend out any unwanted tool marks. All valve guides are honed to size and a multi-angle valve job is cut into the head. The valve job is cut using Newen single carbide insert style cutters of varying profiles. The valve job is lapped in then blended to the finished port and chamber. The heads are then surfaced to the customers needs and reflowed again to confirm that the finished product performs as expected. Outflows ANY production Zetec head without sacrificing velocity. Substantial chamber modification for superior flow dynamics and greater resistance towards detonation. Eibach high rate valve springs. Undercut SI stainless steel OVERSIZE +1mm valves. This undercutting, in addition to reducing the valve weight (which provides benefits in opening rate and RPM limits) the radius of the head is such that is significantly improves air/fuel flow. Fully swirl polished. Chromed stems and Stellite tips. Going for big NA horsepower? Massive offers your choice of standard(.005"-.010" for straightness) or HIGH COMPRESSION state(.045" mill)for serious increases in forward thrust!!!
Requires a $200 Core Deposit or receipt of use able core head prior to shipment.
Clayton going by the flow figures on the first post they aren't even on the money for a good pinto! The second lot of Massive figures are definetely better but be warned you will be trying realllllllllyyy hard to get cams to run on that small a bucket and then you have the issue of the bottom end with a compromised bore stroke ratio I personally wouldn't bother with a Zetec as you wont get enough squirt for the hassle and expense and will make the YB more of an interesting proposition then again an a very tweaked alloy pinto head would be more interesting than a Zetec
Paul Its for the black top. I have one sitting in the corner begging to be used, engine that is.
Danny I hear ya, but I have a knack of doing it the hard way. Must have been from my pre crossflow Ford 6 cyl days And it will bolt up to what I have already. Milling the head surface and putting in larger buckets etc isn't a problem, just time.
No doubt there will be a "told you so" somewhere along the line, but that's life.
Have you ported or have had one ported in the past ??
There's not enough room to move things around to fit a big enough bucket and valve and yes fiddled with heads many years ago for a clubman and it never made enough squirt and wasn't reliable enough as you'll need to look at rods, dry dumping mapped ignition etc the argentinians did the best with them with oval buckets etc but they never even made bda sort of power with them
Granted what Danny has said I have a ST170 engine dead stock internally with a megajolt ignition system (again dead stock ford) and a set of 45mm dellortos and a rubbish set of ashley headers, that makes 146 rwhp upto 7200, this motor is stock so its gunna be reliable, my cranky old pinto lump that had mega work done made 159 rwhp on a good day. But shat itself to pieces. Dont get talked out of the zetec. I'm rapt with it.
