RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

got the good old xflow in a mk1 gt capri, have just started drivin it in and out the shed looking for oil leaks etc. While doing so i have heard a rattle that seems to be coming from the cam and liffters. When i give it a rev and let it go back to idle i can here a rattle from the cam and lifters. Valve clearance is good, the only things i can think of are shot lifters or weak valve springs! any ideas

I'd say timing chain and/or tensioner.

So we would be saying that when revs fall any slack in the timeing chain would cause this noise, most timeing chain noises ive herd are more of a tick than a rattle. I was thinking that i have weak valve springs thus causeing the rattle as when revs drop the springs are not strong enough to keep the follower in contact with the cam, or that the followers are worn and need to be replaced. But if a change of timeing chain will fix it then thats what will happen.
